Agricultural Pesticides and the Deterioration of Health

This chapter assesses the specific pesticides that are most commonly used in Africa and considers the risk that these pesticides may pose to the population. However, recent evidence from independent investigators has revealed that glyphosate is much more toxic to human health than the manufacturer has been claiming. Together with several colleagues, author have proposed in multiple published studies that glyphosate, acting as a glycine analogue, can substitute by mistake for glycine during protein synthesis and that this easily explains the observed effects on EPSP synthase. One study, in particular, published in 2017 showed that rats exposed orally to very low doses of glyphosate developed fatty liver disease. In this chapter, the author have provided an argument that this concept that glyphosate is safe may be untrue, particularly when reader consider epidemiological data, both temporally and spatially.
