Antananarivo - Madagascar - Evolution of urban areas during the period 2003-2017

2019
Land use map, in vector ESRI shape format, of the evolution of the artificial spaces of the Antananarivo urban area, capital of Madagascar, during the period 2003 to 2017. This map is the result of remote sensing processing based on satellite images. We used Spot5 images acquired on February 14 and July 4, 2003. we used Spot5 images acquired on February 14 and July 4, 2003. Access to the images was granted by CNES via the ISIS program. The treatment consisted in using the land use map calculated on the same right-of-way in 2017 (referenced below) as a mask and checking on the old images the evolution of the built spaces. We have tried to measure the evolution of agricultural areas during this same period but the result is not correct because of the difficulty of distinguishing them on archive images from natural areas. The validation of the result was carried out from a reference database constituted by photo-interpretation by an independent operator. The overall accuracy of the map is 91.63% and a kappa index of 0.88.
