Therapeutic use of polyspecific mab-labelled liposomes as carriers for radioisotopes and drugs

1994
The authors use from several years monoclonal antibodies labelled liposomes as selective artificial carriers for radioisotopes and drugs (radiosensitizer, 131-I, Fe3 04, etc.) (Fig. 1). This technique has been used during radiobiology studies on experimental in vitro patterns, which confirmed the internalization of the liposomes and their content into target cells. The use of liposomes for immunoscintigraphy, never reported in international literature, making possible to enhance the amount of entrapped radiotracer molecules or to achieve a local circulating carriers concentration and a plasmatic perfusion slowing down after exposure to a magnetic field (Fig. 2), shows the premises to improve the ratio signal/noise and consequently a good imaging of the lesions. The authors have successfully demonstrated the ability of mab-labelled and iron charged liposomes to reach the target area and present the preliminary results of the artificial carriers use in Cancer therapy.
