A study of melt‐texturing effects in the YBa2Cu3O7−δ ‐mB2O3 system

2008
The crystallization behavior of YBa2Cu3O7−δ ‐mB2O3 mixtures during the melt‐texturing process, where m=0.0,0.1,0.3,0.5,0.8,1.0, was studied. The presence of B2O3 glass assisted the formation of the liquid phase and in turn helped the exaggerated grain growth of YBa2Cu3O7−δ (123) phase, which formed large well regionally aligned crystals. A sequence of quenched samples showed that the phase transformation from Y2BaCuO5 plus liquid to 123 at 950 °C was fast during the melt‐texturing process. The transformation was almost complete after a soak of one hour at 950 °C. The XRD results show that the B2O3 glass phase prevents the transformation of 123 from the tetragonakl to orthorhombic structure.
