Expression of integrin β_1 and integrin α_3 in meningiomas and its biological significance

Objective To investigate the expression of integrinβ_1 and integrin α_3 in meningiomas and its biological significance.Methods Immunohistochemical assay was used to determine the expression of integrin β_1,integrin α_3,and Ki-67 nuclear antigen in the meningiomas (43 cases),normal dura(5 cases)and arachnoid(5 cases).Results In gradeⅠand gradeⅡ,Ⅲ meningiomas,the positive expression rates of integrin β_1 were 40.0% and 87.5%,respectively;the positive expression rates of integrin α_3 were 80.0% and 37.5%,respectively(P0.05).Moreover,the expression of integrin β_1 and α_3 was associated with Ki-67 labeling index.Conclusion Integrin β_1 and α_3 participates the regulating process of proliferation of meningiomas.The proliferativel activity and malignant grade of meningiomas correlates to increased expression of integrin β_1 and decreased expression of integrin α_3.The expression of integrin β_1 and α_3 is associated with the invasive biological behavior in meningiomas.
