Objective: To understand the knowledge level, attitude and practice about HIV/AIDS of public health professionals in some areas of China so as to direct local education on HIV/AIDS. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the information including knowledge, attitude and practice about HIV/AIDS of health professionals working at provincial, city and district disease control and prevention centers. Results: Of all the public health professionals investigated, more than 95% had better knowledge of HIV/AIDS; about 50% considered that HIV infection was an ignominious thing; about 40% thought that HIV infection was a kind of punishment to immoral behaviors; 61.8% were willing to do all the work if the work required contacting patients with HIV/AIDS directly; 68.3% believed that they would live and work normally after infected with HIV/AIDS. Differences in knowledge among health professionals in provincial, city and district levels of disease control and prevention centers were not significant but significant difference was observed in the attitude and practice, and the differences were not coincident. Conclusion: Professional education on HIV/AIDS should be enhanced, and the negative attitude, and practice in public health professionals towards the persons with HIV/AIDS needs to be corrected.
