Cellular Diversity of Human Placental Vessel Wall
1996
The basic cell type of the placental villus core is undifferentiated stromal cells. Beginning in the early periods of vascularization, these show a differentiation towards the whole variety of villus stromal cells (Benirschke and Kaufmann, 1990; Demir and Erbengi, 1984), and form the vessels (Demir et al, 1989). From these new cell varieties; fibroblasts, reticulum cells, pericytes, endothelial cells, myofibroblasts, Hofbauer cells and embyronic plasma cells and the entire stromal architecture is constructed. From the early periods of pregnancy, many developmental changes and differentiations, which continue in various directions, take place in the villus core (Benirschke and Kaufmann, 1990; Demir et al, 1989). The cellular variability of placental vessels wall is very rarely examined depending on the solution embryonal cell potence and differentiation processes.
