“Who do people say the Son of man is” (Mt.16.13). A narrative study of the term “son of man” in the synoptic gospels

2021
The term “son of man” in the synoptic gospels is a highly debated and under-used one in Christology. Drawing on the narrative analysis of Jesus’ own words and of the titles attributed to him, it can be concluded that “son of man” is not a genuine title but an open-ended term that evolves throughout the gospel narrative. Ultimately, it is up to the reader to take a stand on the mystery of Jesus.
