Extraction and Spectrophotometric Determination of Ti(IV) Using 2-Pyrilideniminobenzohydroxamic Acid As Chelating Agent

2010
The reaction of Ti(IV) with 2-pyrilideniminobenzohydroxamic acid (2-PIBHA) was studied in aqueous medium and by using an extraction in isoamyl alcohol. The stoichiometries of the complexes formed are 1:1 and 1:3 (Ti(IV):reagent) in both cases. The extraction and spectrophotometric determination of titanium with 2-PIBHA can be performed in a concentration range from 0.1 to 1.4 μg/ml of Ti(IV). The apparent molar absorptivity in isoamyl alcohol is 39600 1.mol−1.cm−1 at 375 nm. The relative error of the method is ± 0.64% for 25 μg of Ti(IV) in the aqueous phase (50 ml) and the extraction constant is 1.45×1013.
