A Fast Algorithm for Computing Fields of a Vertical Magnetic Dipole in a Dissipative Half-Space

This paper presents a new algorithm of computing the fields generated by a vertical magnetic dipole in a dissipative half space. The specific wave called the lateral wave along the interface of two half spaces is discussed. The expressions of field components are obtained with the spectral domain method. One term is extracted from the original solution and the remaining terms can be evaluated analytically. In the far region, the extracted term has small contribution to the field solution and can be ignored. The extracted term has fast convergence rate when calculated numerically in the near region. Some numerical results of the fields of a vertical magnetic dipole in the sea are given to validate the proposed method.
