A Survey of Syntax-based Statistical Machine Translation

This paper presents an overview of recent syntaxbased statistical machine translation(SMT).According to the differences of grammars which translation models are based on,we classify the syntax-based SMT into two categories: formally syntax-based SMT and linguistically syntax-based SMT.For each category,we discuss the representative work,including model design,training and decoding.We also make a comparison of different models.Finally,we point out the problems on designing syntax models and give a prediction of future development of syntax-based SMT.
