A new genus Eurotherium Mammalia, Creodonta in reference to taxonomic problems with some Eocene hyaenodontids from Eurasia

Several interrelated taxonomic problems exist with the genera Paracynohyaenodon Martin, 1906, Propterodon Martin, 1906, Prodissopsalis Matthes, 1952, Allopterodon Ginsburg, 1977 and Hurzelerius Lange-Badre, 1984. The history of the problems is retraced and the current usages explained. A new genus name, Eurotherium n. gen. and comb. is proposed for the species theriodis (Van Valen, 1965) and matthesi (Lange-Badre and Haubold, 1990), roughly corresponding to the former usage of Allopterodon Ginsburg, 1977
