'Rethinking child protection strategy': Causes and consequences of children in the care system

An invited workshop presentation for Family Policymakers and Analysts at the Ministry of Justice. The presentation covers the final data and theoretical findings from 'Rethinking Child Protection Strategy' (ESRC grant number ES/M000990/1) together with a brief introduction to the implications of these findings for understanding more about the rise in s.31 Care Order applications. The presentation introduces the research team's new project building on the findings from 'Rethinking'. The presentation clarifies the responsibilities of the DfE and the MOJ, highlighting the dilemma of the MOJ who cannot control the volume of cases entering their remit as a consequence of policy and practice under the control of the DfE.
