Achieving the Optimum Operating Point (OOP)

2021
This chapter focuses on the influence of the input impedance of the Receiver Circuit (Rx-circuit), which is loading the Rx coil, in the Power Transfer Efficiency (PTE) and in the Power Delivered to the Load (PDL). It is proved that the input impedance of the Rx-circuit can be adjusted to maximize the PTE, achieving the Maximum Efficiency Point (MEP), or to maximize the PDL, achieving the Maximum Power Point (MPP). The MEP and MPP are compared providing basic guidelines to choose between them. The theoretical analysis is carried out for 2- and 3-coil links, providing simple equations to compare the performance of a link with and without an additional resonator.
