A Novel Dual-input Dual-output Converter and Dynamic Energy Management for PV/Battery Systems

2019
In photovoltaic (PV) / battery power systems, using a multiple-port converter (MPC) instead of several single-input converters has advantages of simpler circuit, higher efficiency and lower cost. A novel dual-input dual-output (DIDO) converter as well as its operating principle are analyzed in this paper. A dynamic energy management and control method based on inductor current ripple is further proposed for PV/battery system, which can maintain maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation of PV module and constant bus voltage at the same time. The implementation of the control method is described in detail. Derivation of voltage gain and the conditions for the converter to work on continuous conduction mode (CCM) are provided to guide parameter design. Finally, simulation verifications for different demands of PV power and load power are given to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed topology and control method.
