INFLUENCE OF AGING ON EFFECTIVENESS OF INHIBITED LUBRICANTS

1990
Modern preservative lubricants must provide corrosion protection for vehicles and equipment for aperiod of i0 years or longer. Therefore, studies have been made of the aging of thin films of inhibited oils during extended storage [1-4]. If the ambient medium is not particularly corrosive, the protective properties of lube base stocks actually improve with aging; operational oils (motor oils and gear and transmission lubricants), which contain a package of functional additives, remain practically unchanged in protective properties; but preservative oils and operational/preservative oils deteriorate appreciably in protective properties [4, 5].
