Clinical study of postoperative brachytherapy with Iodine-125 for gliomas

Objective To study the clinical efficacy of balloon brachytherapy with Iodine-125 for gliomas. Methods From April 2003 to October 2003 , 4 patients were treated by the balloon brachytherapy filled with Iodine-125. Total irradiation of 60~80 gy was administered in 5-8 days. Rusults Over one year survival in 3 cases,no acute or chronic radiation side effect were observed in the follow-up. Conclusion The balloon brachytherapy filled with iodine-125 can improve the quality of life and prolong survival time evidently. It is an effective method for the treatment of the gliomas.
