Big data and natural disasters: New approaches for spatial and temporal massive data analysis

Abstract This is an editorial summarizing accepted papers at the special issue entitled Big data and natural disasters: New approaches for spatial and temporal massive data analysis that was published by Computers & Geosciences in 2018. Floods, earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes and tsunamis were analyzed by means of machine learning and big data techniques. Novel and innovative approaches were proposed in order to deal with these natural disasters. Twelve high quality papers were accepted, including authors from more than 15 nationalities. Furthermore, before 2018 ended, these papers received 35 cites.
