Hydraulic systems and equipments failures of ship machinery

2012
The maintenance plan which is built on data supplied by the manufacturer is the basis of maintenance of the ship machinery. Maintaining the components of marine systems that are of great significance for safety and operation garners the greatest attention. Marine hydraulic systems and equipments are not important for the safety and operation of the ship machinery and are usually omitted from the periodic systematic review. Due to this fact, this paper presents some of the failures of the hydraulic systems and equipments and the ways of correcting them. Design, production and exploitation can generally be considered the main causes of the hydraulic systems failures. The appearance of noise, high fluid temperature and power decrease in the ship's hydraulic system are interrelated phenomena that lead to failure. As it is displayed, damages of pistons of the axial-piston hydraulic machine appear due to the viscosity decrease below the limiting values. In order to reduce the occurrence of failures, the installation of high temperature alarms and shutdown systems is proposed. In order to eliminate the abruption more effectively, the authors suggest that optimization of the maintenance costs of the marine hydraulic systems of the ship machinery can be achieved through better education and organization of the crew.
