Asociación entre urticaria crónica y cándida

2019
INTRODUCTION: Urticaria is an erythematous and pruritic lesion with variable shape and dimensions which disappears with diascopy. Urticaria is considered a symptom and represents the main manifestation of a broad group of diseases. Candidiasis is an opportunistic mycoses caused by Candida Albicans that it is a dimorphic fungus which colonizes the digestive, respiratory and genitourinary tracts. METHODOLOGY: A structured question was presented from the exposure of a clinical scenario, then a bibliographic search was made in order to answer the question about what association exists between the high count of colonies of Candida in stools and chronic Urticaria. A PubMed search was performed and the article named: “Candida spp. colonization and serum anticandidal antibody levels in patients with chronic urticaria” was selected. ANALYSIS OF THE ARTICLE: A secondary analysis of the data was performed in order to set the values of prevalence of the exposed in the two groups, cases and controls. On the other hand, the Odds Ratio was stated with his respective 95% confidence interval (CI 95%). FINAL RECOMMENDATION: For the moment it is not possible to establish an accurate association between colonization by Candida spp in fecal matter and the development of chronic urticaria.
