Study on expression and relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor and integrin β1 in the human brain astrocytoma

Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and integrin β1 subunit in different pathological grade human brain astrocytoma, and the relationship between them.Methods The expression of VEGF and integrin β1 subunit in 42 cases human brain astrocytoma was detected with Elivsion and SP immunohistochemical technique, respectively. Results In the human brain astrocytoma specimens,VEGF and integrin β1 subunit positive staining was localized mainly in the glioma cells and some in blood vessel endothelial cells. The expression of VEGF and integrin β1 subunit with histological grade were significantly increased. Low-level and high-level group showed a significant difference in expression (P< 0. 05 ) and there were a certain correlation between the expression of VEGF and integrin β1 subunit by Speraman correlation analysis (P< 0. 01 ). Conclusion The expression of VEGF and integrin β1 subunit in the human brain astrocytoma controls its malignant behavior and there were a certain correlation between the expression of VEGF and integrin β1 subunit.
