SE1: What Technologies Will Shape the Future of Computing?

2021
General-purpose computing has derived performance gains from clock frequency and instructions-per-clock for over four decades; achieving an impressive ∼105 performance increase over the same timeframe. With the future of the traditional computing roadmap in doubt, this event will discuss what other technologies could help shape the future of computing. How much further can we push traditional CPU micro-architectures? Will 3D integration help extend the traditional roadmap for another decade? Will dedicated accelerators become mainstream alternatives for everyday computing tasks? Can memory materials or architectures provide a performance breakthrough for traditional architectures and what if error-free memory is no longer a constraint?
