Fire protection: Water curtains

A simple calculation model is put forward for determining the attenuation of the infrared radiation of a fire by means of a water-drop laden jet. It accounts for both the scattering phenomena and the absorption phenomena on the drops. The optical properties of water in the IR range were studied and incorporated into the calculation. Results obtained for different drop diameters and different amounts injected are presented.
