Upsetting process for pipes

The invention relates to a process for plastic deformation of a tubular workpiece (1). According to the invention the method comprises the following steps: Local, inductive heating of the workpiece (1) in a forming area (A); Placing the workpiece (1) in which the workpiece is axially slidable in a block having an outer shape and a tubular guide portion; Moving the partially heated workpiece by means of an upsetting mandrel by the guide portion against a stop; Plastic deformation of the workpiece, at least in the heated forming region by the action of force between the mandrel and the compression stop; and removal of the formed workpiece from the block. The invention is also suitable for carrying out the method.
