Indian Macropsinae (Homoptera: Cicadellidae) I. New species of Macropsis from South India

Summary Descriptions and illustrations of eight new species of Macropsis Lewis namely, M. karnatakana, M. hamiltoni, M. kolarensis, M. sohii. M. nigrolineata, M. kanakapurensis, M. leucasasperae and M. ziziphi are given. Except ziziphi and leucasasperae which were found breeding on Ziziphus sp. (Rhamnaceae) and Leucas aspera (Willd.) Spr. (Lamiaceae) respectively, other species were found breeding on species of Acacia (Fabaceae), a dominant vegetation of the dry deciduous forests of Deccan Plateau. Both adults and nymphs of karnatakana, hamiltoni, nigrolineata and leucasasperae were actively attended by the ant Camponotus sp. A key for the known species of Indian Macropsinae is also given.
