Overview of the Indigenous Situation in the Pan-Amazonia Region: A Brief Introduction

2020
This introductory chapter presents briefly an overview of the indigenous situation and context in the Pan-Amazonia region, and there are two major issues highlighted as part of the Indigenous discussion and complexities: environment conflict and social/territorial/ethnic conflicts. The book gathers a collection of chapters reviewing these issues, as well as public policies, laws, and other aspects related to territorialities, indigenous empowerment, ethno-development, culture, and traditions, among an array of issues related to Amazonia and indigenous groups and communities presented throughout the book, which are academically and scientifically supported by the literature, theories, conceptual approaches, practical experiences and in situ studies.
