Decomposition and Reduction of Dynamical Models of Large Power Systems with Application to Stability Studies

1976
Abstract The aim of this paper is to propose and develop techniques for reducing the mathematical model of large scale power systems. A criteria for decomposing and grouping sets of machines is proposed, by which we can know the groups of machines moving together a priori without simulating the system equations. Based on this criteria new reduced mathematical models taking the effect of damping into consideration are developed which has the advantage of reducing the dimension of the system. Finally, these techniques are used for studying stability of large power system and the results obtained, using IBM 370/165 digital computer of L. A. A. S., showed the efficiency of the developed techniques.
