Technology and Metallurgy of the Olp Process

A description of the lime blowing technology developed by IRSID (OLP process) is given. Industrial data from Dillingen in Saar and Usinor Denain in France are summarized. An example of the flexibility offered by the OLP process, is shown by the direct production of carbon steel with a slag thickening method. Final results are given for the pilot study on the continuous recording of the carbon content of the bath, which is a further step towards the automation of the LD process.
