Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing

2018
Abstract In this chapter, we share our perspective as nursing faculty regarding what we believe students of nursing science, nursing faculty, and librarians for health sciences need to know about information literacy and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). We begin by discussing basic epistemological concepts of how nurses know what they know. Then we introduce common EBP models used in nursing practice and discuss several factors impacting efficacious clinical utilization. Finally, we consider how information literacy has moved beyond accessing traditional research via databases and now includes accessing information via health informatics data systems. This discussion is framed within the extensive web of national health policies and laws.
