Erosion of Different Propellants on the Cobalt-Based Alloy Coating for Gun Barrel

2019
The cobalt-based coating was deposited on the surface of the PCrNi3MoVA gun steel via plasma transferred arc technology, and the coating samples were subjected to 30 accelerated erosion cycles in a modified pressure-vented vessel using two kinds of propellants of different particle sizes and detonation temperatures with the purpose of determining the erosion resistance of the coating, in order to explore the application of cobalt-based alloys in large-caliber barrel weapons. The results show that the two types of propellants have obvious differences in the degree of coating erosion due to different burning speeds and detonation temperatures.
