NEW MATERIAL: Arylalkoxycoumarin represented by formula I (wherein R 1 and R 2 are each H, lower alkyl, phenyl, halogen or combined to form a 3-5C alkylene crosslinked group, R 3 is lower alkyl or halogen; (n) is 0-3; (m) is 0-4; R 4 is H or lower alkyl; Ar is phenyl or naphthyl which is mono--tri-subsid by halogen, 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C alkoxy or phenyl or naphthyl; which is mono- subsid. by nitro, cyano or trifluoromethyl and, when Ar is a non-subsid. phenyl, (m) is not 0). EXAMPLE: 3,4-Dimethyl-7-(4-isopropylphenyl)-methoxycoumarin. USE: Useful for treating a central nervous system disease, especially, a nerve modifying disease and a Parkinson's disease. PROCESS: A compd. represented by formula II and a compd. represented by formula II (wherein Y is a nucleous bonded starting group) are reacted to obtain the compd. represented by formula I.
