The nitrogen heterocyclic ligands pyridine, 2-methylpyridine, 2,4-dimethylpyridine, 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline, 2-methylquinoline, and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline were reacted with (η 5 -cyclopentadienyl)ruthenium cation, [CpRu(CH 3 CN) 3 ](PF 6 ), to ascertain the mode of bonding as a function of structure, i.e., nitrogen (η 1 (N)) versus π (η 6 ) bonding
