Growth and characterization of TlGaTe2

Abstract TlGaTe 2 crystals were grown and purified by successive recrystallizations. A stoichiometric analysis gave maximum deviations of the nominal TlGaTe 2 - composition of ~5%. An X-ray diffraction study gave the following results for the structure of the obtained crystals: Space group D 4h 18 , lattice parameters a = 8.455A and c = 6.871A. A morphological investigation of the obtained crystals reveals the fiberlike structure of this material.
