Applications of Porous Ceramics

2014
With their great heat resistance, good abrasion resistance, and chemical stability, porous ceramics are very well suited to handle high temperatures, abrasion, and severe corrosion, but their intrinsic brittleness may restrict their applications to some extent. This chapter mainly introduces the applications of these materials in filtration and separation, and their functional applications in acting as biomaterials, ecomaterials (environmental materials), and sensors (sensing elements). The application of filtration and separation has an evident superiority in the filtration of molten metals and hot gases. Using porous ceramics as catalyst carriers is their main application in chemical engineering.
