Islet in evolution of pancreatic adenocarcinoma

Objective To identify the relationship between islet and pancreatic adenocarcinoma.Methods Fifty-two cases of pancreatic adenocarcinoma sections were used for morphological analysis,and chromogranin A (CGA) and cytokeratin-7 (CK-7) were detected as immunological markers for islet and duct.Results The deformation of islet was found in 35 of the 52 cases,including vacuolation and tube-like structure in 11,among them 7 cases showed weakened CGA staining in the ductalepithelioid cells by transdifferentiation,and positive CK-7.Conclusion Islet provided precursors of tumor cells and participated in formation of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
