Some comments on Sabine absorption coefficient (L)

2005
The case of a nonzero reverberation time when all absorptive surfaces in a room have values of Sabine absorption coefficient of one, the existence of values of the coefficient that are larger than one, and the difference of the coefficient from the statistical absorption coefficient, are well known. So far, the reasons for these phenomena are still unclear. This letter provides a new perspective to the classical problem of sound absorption where physical interpretations of the Sabine absorption coefficient are given for different types of absorptive surface and conditions of the sound field in rooms.
