Damped solitary waves on a superfluid vortex filament

2018
Abstract We have investigated the evolution of bright solitary wave (solitons) on a thin vortex filament under the action of time dependent damping in a superfluid at the zero temperature limit by exactly solving the damped-nonlinear Schrodinger equation (dNLSE). It is found that the dissipation of the wave amplitude depends on the functional form of the time dependency of the damping force. The damping rate is not constant but varies significantly with time. Comparison has been made between the characteristics of amplitude decay due a constant damping and a particular form of time dependent damping factor, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Stability of the solitary wave has also been studied in presence of such dissipation.
