Progress in the research about the effect of high salt diet on macrophages in multiple sclerosis

2016
High-salt-diet (HSD) is popular in some western countries and in most parts of China. Researches have shown that HSD could increase the risk of hypertension and heart diseases. It could also promote naive T cells to differentiate into pro-inflammatory subsets that participate in autoimmune diseases. The effect of HSD on APC cells is still unknown. Previous studies also found that HSD could induce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines from macrophages in the patients with multiple sclerosis. As more and more people are pursuing a health living, HSD is attracting the attention of more and more researchers. Study in this field may hopefully lead to the effective treatment to the related autoimmune diseases. Key words: High-salt-diet; Macrophage; Pro-inflammatory subsets
