Magnetic properties of the Mn3PtNx system

1971
Abstract The magnetic properties of the Mn 3 PtN x system with x =0−0.07 have been investigated by X-ray and neutron diffraction as well as magnetic methods. The nitrogen atoms occupying at random the body-centred interstitial positions in the Cu 3 Au type cubic cell cause the lattice to dilate, thus the temperature of the triangular-collinear transformation decreases with increasing nitrogen concentration. In addition, an increase in the Neel point of the collinear phase is observed. The value of the magnetic moment on the Mn atoms changes in the triangular-collinear transformation from 3.5 ± 0.2 to 4.5 ± 0.2 μ B for x =0.025. The anomalies in the lattice parameter and susceptibility reported for Mn 3 Pt were found in the Mn 3 PtN x system, too.
