Importance and prospects of bioinspired and biomimetic materials for drug delivery

Abstract This chapter summarizes the discoveries and inventions in the field of bioinspired and biomimetic materials over the last 30 years and sheds light on important areas with therapeutic application. Materials such as biopolymers, bio-macromolecules, silica, biomimetic nanonetworks as well as diverse cell-inspired nanoinventions have been discussed to elucidate their feasibility in drug-delivery mechanism.
