Objectives of the USAID-funded Maternal and Child Health Initiative are to promote evidence-based medical practices in maternal and infant care. Analysis of clinical practices in maternity hospitals in 10 Russian regions presents exiting issues in care. Evaluation of changes in practices in the pilot sites participated in the project since 1999 demonstrates successes in introducing evidence-based care in Russian health system that have occurred as a result of project activities.
