Polyimides are made (i, 2) by reacting diamines with aromatic tetracarboxylic acid di- esters; they have high thermal resistance, good mechanical strength, and various other valu- able properties. Little is known about the polyimide production mechanism here, in contrast to production via polyamides involving the reaction of dianhydrides with diamines.
