Expression of PLCE1 protein in esophageal multistage carcinogenesis

2012
Objective To characterize the expression of PLCE1 protein in multistage carcinogenesis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).Methods Immunohistochemical analysis of PLCE1 expression was carried out in paraffin-embedded sections of the normal esophageal squamous epithelium, precancerous lesion and cancer tissues from ESCC cases(n=138).Results The positive protein immunostaining expression rates for PLCE1 were 41%,82% and 83% in the normal esophageal squamous epithelium, precancerous lesion and cancer tissues,respectively(P0.05).Furthermore,the rates in cancer were not of statistical significance in the high/low incidence areas,positive/negative family history(P0.05).Conclusions The results showed that overexpression of PLCE1 protein may participate in esophageal carcinogensis, and PLCE1 may be a pathogenic gene to promote the development of ESCC.
