Dijabetes i metabolički sindrom nakon gestacijskoga dijabetesa [Diabetes and metabolic syndrome after gestational diabetes]

2015
Women with GDM have higher risk of disturbed glucose and lipids metabolism later in life, which, along with higher anthropometric measures and higher incidence of arterial hypertension, is the basis of metabolic syndrome. This cohort study involved women with GDM which have been monitored after delivery to ascertain the risk of developing glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, inflammation and metabolic syndrome, as well as to identify the earliest point in which it is possible to detect changes in potential disease markers. Along with anthropometric measures, concentrations of C-peptide, leptin, adiponectin, interleukin-6, plasminogen activation inhibitor-1, glucose, glycated hemoglobin, cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL have also been measured. Insulin resistance and arterial hypertension incidence have been calculated. The incidence of glucose intolerance, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome has been determined. Women with GDM had higher incidence of glucose and lipids metabolism disorder, and metabolic syndrome compared to the healthy population, and have earlier disease onset. The results suggest poor longterm effects on health. Change in mindset and continuing with care right after delivery will provide women with GDM the ability to reduce the risk they live with.
