KD with Digestive System Involvement

Gastrointestinal symptoms or signs are not part of the diagnostic criteria for KD. However, many patients with KD have abdominal complaints as part of their presentation. Actually, a retrospective research revealed about 6% KD patients consulted gastroenterologist initially (Ohnishi et al., J Med Ultrason (2001) 45(2):381–384, 2018). Their median duration of illness at gastroenterology consultation was 5 days, whereas median duration of illness at infectious disease consultation was 6 days. It is interesting that patients in this series with gastrointestinal presentation were male, older, and had lower inflammatory markers and peripheral blood eosinophilia.
