In the paper a short survey on the state of the art in applying artificial neural networks for signal processing is given. Possible fields of application and practical solutions are reviewed. As a case study, the detection of the pulse frequency from ECG signals is discussed in more detail. Concluding remarks refer to the future potential of neural networks
