Irradiation and gamma-ray spectrometric parameters for /sup 129/I neutron-activation analysis
1983
This paper describes the influence of reactor neutron irradiation facilities on low-level /sup 129/I analysis methodology. Three reactors are compared - the HFIR at ORNL, the N-Reactor at Hanford, and a 1-MW research reactor at Washington State University, Pullman, WA. Parameters compared include sensitivity for /sup 129/I and natural iodine and interference effects due to high levels of /sup 127/I in irradiated samples. Selection of detector systems for off-site use at HFIR is discussed. A comparison of neutron activation analysis with other sensitive detection methods for measurement of /sup 129/I is given.
