Information recording and reproduction device

PURPOSE: To attain the recording and reproduction of a moving picture with high definition by providing a data companding means which compresses and records a digital video signal in compliance with the JPEG standards and expands and outputs reproduced compressed data in compliance with the JPEG standards to the device and selecting the companding means for each prescribed scanning period. CONSTITUTION: YUV digital data by one frame stored in a frame memory 2C1 are fed to a compander 2d1 companding input and output data in compliance with the JPEG standards. Recording compression data resulting from compressing the YUV digital data by one frame with a compression rate set by a compression rate control signal fed from a CPU 5b in a control section 5 in response to a key switch entry from a panel section 4 in the compander 2d1 are outputted to a bus interface 2e.
