Effect of fabrication parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties of wire arc additive manufactured AZ61 alloy

Abstract The wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) was employed to fabricate the AZ61 alloys via different fabrication parameters. The microstructure, including grain size and porosity, varies with the processing conditions, which significantly influence the mechanical properties of the fabricated materials. The superior microstructure with fine grains and reduced porosity was achieved via fabrication parameters with current of 130A, voltage of 12.5kV and wire feed speed of 820mm/min, providing exceptionally excellent comprehensive mechanical properties.
