Sustainable Development in Textile Processing

2020
Textile processing, which includes dyeing, finishing, bleaching, printing, etc., uses many synthetic toxic chemicals, and lots of energy and water have been consumed by textile industries for processing. As a result, effluents generated from these industries are also toxic (contain acids, alkali, synthetic dyes, formaldehyde-based chemicals, etc.) and are harmful to any living being. More usage of synthetic chemicals in textile industries is harmful for end users and also for people who are involved directly and indirectly with the processing sector. For the last three to four decades, due to tougher government legislation and for human safety, eco-friendliness or sustainability became a major concern for all small and big textile industries. To increase awareness about sustainability in the field of textile processing, many researches, workshops, and seminars are being conducted throughout the world.
